Centro Naval, Buenos Aires

4.5
#18 of 60 in Historic Sites in Buenos Aires
Architectural Building Historic Site
Those interested in Buenos Aires' naval history will appreciate Centro Naval, a club set up by young Argentine Navy officers in 1882 as a place for recreation, relaxation, and exchange of ideas. Outside the building, pause to take in its opulent neoclassical architecture, with richly detailed windows, pillars, and roof. Note that entrance is allowed only on select days, and even then you won't get further than the lobby of this members-only club. • Guided visit of Saturday's midday. Bad information about the visit on the page of the Naval Center where it says that you have to communicate a certain number to book, that is with limited vacancies and that they do not accept reservations by answering machine. I called repeatedly to that number and not served anybody, only answering machine. I contact the Naval Center and tell me that safe is no place, arriving 5 minutes before, that I can not there book because the girl's visits on Saturday and that I have to communicate to the number it says page. When I managed to communicate to that number they told me that they do not take reservations, the Naval Center page information is wrong. We arrived 5 minutes earlier (as recommended) and they made us wait outside in the cold that it was terrible. I told the guide it from the page and thanked me and said I was going to ask them to change it. The visit itself was good, but much more oriented to the historical that architecture. It takes 1 hour and costs $150. The guide very well-educated and attentive. It is interesting but not a visit required. They have a painting of Quinquela Martin very nice and the room where events are held has decorated ceiling with trompe l'oeil.

  • I went to a guided tour of this magnificent building, which shows its spotless rooms and a refined architecture. It also has a dining room rococo style where you can have lunch, taking into account that the dress is elegant casual.

  • Located one of busiest Street of Buenos Aires Downtown.. right in the Corner.. nobody can't miss the Exceptional view of the Architecture . Of Naval Center!
  • Great architecture with the most impressive entrance door ever
  • Awesome place to visit
  • Best Naval in Buenos Aires
  • The headquarters of the Naval Center, designed by the architects Gaston Louis Mallet, of French origin, and the Swiss Jacques Dumant, constitutes one of the main exponents of the Beaux-Arts style in Buenos Aires. The building has a façade of eclectic label. Stands out the portal Art Nouveau, made from old cannons used in the struggle for national independence cast iron and bronze. The sumptuous interior rooms have a marked influence of the Belle Epoque style.

Where to stay in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires offers an impressive selection of budget-friendly and mid-range lodgings, as well as pricier, more luxurious options for visitors who don't mind splashing out. Good rooms are scattered across town, but your best bet for economical hostels remains San Telmo, a neighborhood on the edge of downtown. For boutique establishments and international five-star hotels, head to Palermo, Recoleta, or Puerto Madero, upscale neighborhoods drawing the majority of foreign visitors.
