Catedral Metropolitana, Buenos Aires

4.6
Despite its undoubted importance as a religious landmark, Catedral Metropolitana is best known as the burial site of General Jose de San Martin, Argentina's celebrated national hero. You can see San Martin's sarcophagus at a mausoleum inside the church--note the statues of three women guarding the general and representing Argentina, Chile, and Peru. The somber cathedral, which looks more like a bank building from the outside, also contains the remains of other Argentinean war heroes. • You have to get to know how beautiful she is, on the outside doesn't say the inner beauty and still we were graced by GOD on the tour because it was being held a mass, which was beautiful and exciting.

  • For those interested in religious architecture, the visit is worth. Not as important as other Latin American cathedrals, it is still interesting. It is part of the "historic" circuit. Anyone that goes to the Pink House, Town Hall, or block of the lights should miss it.

  • Explore it and see your Majesty, as well as delving into the history of San Martín and the passing of the Pope Francisco mausoleum when Cardinal Bergoglio; make it a forced and enjoyable ride

  • It's a beautiful cathedral. Close to all other attractions in the centre and very nice to visit with family, friends and couple.
  • Cool cathedral and beautiful on the inside. It was the seat of Pope Francis when he was the archbishop. There's also a changing of the guards that protects the tomb of General San Martín. The guards although definitely do not have as much discipline as British or Canadian guards. Don't be confused by the exterior of the Parthenon, it is the cathedral.
  • Nice and cool when it's hot outside. And it's a beautiful cathedral.
  • A unique and very beautiful place, a lot of details into it's construction, a huge and beautiful organ tubes.
  • A beautiful and recently well maintained cathedral steeped in the history of Argentina. It is also an active place of worship.

Where to stay in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires offers an impressive selection of budget-friendly and mid-range lodgings, as well as pricier, more luxurious options for visitors who don't mind splashing out. Good rooms are scattered across town, but your best bet for economical hostels remains San Telmo, a neighborhood on the edge of downtown. For boutique establishments and international five-star hotels, head to Palermo, Recoleta, or Puerto Madero, upscale neighborhoods drawing the majority of foreign visitors.
