Catedral Metropolitana, Buenos Aires

(5,500+ reviews on the web)
Religious Site Tourist Spot
Despite its undoubted importance as a religious landmark, Catedral Metropolitana is best known as the burial site of General Jose de San Martin, Argentina's celebrated national hero. You can see San Martin's sarcophagus at a mausoleum inside the church--note the statues of three women guarding the general and representing Argentina, Chile, and Peru. The somber cathedral, which looks more like a bank building from the outside, also contains the remains of other Argentinean war heroes.
