Catedral Metropolitana, Buenos Aires

Categories: Sacred & Religious Sites, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.5/5 based on 4,400+ reviews on the web
Despite its undoubted importance as a religious landmark, Catedral Metropolitana is best known as the burial site of General Jose de San Martin, Argentina's celebrated national hero. You can see San Martin's sarcophagus at a mausoleum inside the church--note the statues of three women guarding the general and representing Argentina, Chile, and Peru. The somber cathedral, which looks more like a bank building from the outside, also contains the remains of other Argentinean war heroes. • A Metropolitan Cathedral with a different architecture than usual in the capitals or large cities THE allows the religious connection with spaces cared for reflection and adoration of sanctities

  • Located near the Plaza de Mayo, the Cathedral has differentiated architecture and unusual for a church of this size. I didn't go in, I just took pictures on the outside. Be careful crossing the Avenue as there are intense movement of vehicles.

  • An enormous cathedral - a very simple yet pleasing visit in one of the places the current pope went to. The entrance is completely free, but you can buy souvenirs in its shop.

  • Very beautiful cathedral, near the Subte and by the way you have to take care with homeless people.
