Calle Florida, Buenos Aires

2.4
Known for its chaotic mix of high-end retailers and street hawkers, Calle Florida makes for an interesting Buenos Aires shopping spree. The pedestrianized street, just north of the central Plaza de Mayo, has gained a worldwide reputation for its slightly dubious "unofficial money exchangers," who call out "cambio" in Spanish as you pass. Keep walking north of Avenue Cordoba and you'll suddenly find a host of leather shops, offering distinctive locally made products. Take a moment to appreciate many talented street performers on your walk. Put Calle Florida at the forefront of your travel plans using our Buenos Aires trip planner .

  • Had marked to go to Florida Street on any given day, but because of the rush to change money couldn't. On Saturday, coming back from the Casa Rosada, wasn't even remembering the street more when I ran into her. There was a never ending tour. The street is very large and there are many options of things to buy. It was there that I couldn't find my shirt of argentina. Well worth dropping by. You have to have the patience to endure listening to the "Roger, Roger" the guys offering to exchange money and annoying trying to take people to the store. But in the more ... a great ride.

Where to stay in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires offers an impressive selection of budget-friendly and mid-range lodgings, as well as pricier, more luxurious options for visitors who don't mind splashing out. Good rooms are scattered across town, but your best bet for economical hostels remains San Telmo, a neighborhood on the edge of downtown. For boutique establishments and international five-star hotels, head to Palermo, Recoleta, or Puerto Madero, upscale neighborhoods drawing the majority of foreign visitors.
