  • We left Zapala bound Villa Pehuenia, but some heavy snowfall had closed the passage of early pine and forced us down to Alumine to reach the village. The detour adds about 100km and they told us that the road was good, being careful in lowering the Rahue. We actually climbed with snowfall and wind white in some parts of the tour, is all gravel and is well maintained by roads, but it is essential to put the chains. I suggest when it begins to rise and there is still good shoulders to stop and place them safely and not above where the road is narrow and unsafe to stop in the middle of the road. The car came up and low without any problem, we were prudent and reduced speed in the curves but we saw several cars without chains that had been left and probably their owners return to find them then when the storm with the right equipment. The landscape is impressive and being all white is extremely beautiful, it had more 1 meter of snow on both sides of the road. In the highest part begins the descent with a stretch of snails or "worms" as we were told, is the most intense part of the journey, once down the stretch until Alumine is longer on the side of the river and while there was a lot of ice, was faster. It took us more than 3 hours the full until you reach Villa Pehuenia junction. In highly recommended synthesis even in winter, but always with chains by hand, they are indispensable to upload and download safely and do it with daylight, keep that in mind to start before noon and you do not grab you the afternoon above, I wouldn't be there d (e) night. Anyway this very present roads and saw trucks limpianieves passing and the camp is on the way.

  • It is an amazing place to visit by car in quiet and without troubles. If done with caution as over winding it is not dangerous. In winter it is open depending on snow and weather. Cross it with chains. It is one of the best views in the area. For me the most beautiful of all.

  • I made the journey from Alumine to Zapala. The road is gravel but is in perfect condition. I did it in the summer but I have understood that in winter call previously the State of the route by snowfall. The viewpoints are not well marked and I could not stop me to look at. I think that lowering the slope you can see much more landscape.
