Take in the history of the island at Museum of Antigua and Barbuda, a small but well-stocked museum providing information on the island's geological history, as well as its cultural and political past. The museum's relatively small size makes it a good place to bring children, who also enter free. You can visit the museum as part of a day excursion in the town, while also having time to see other sights. Be sure to check out the gift shop, which sells local artisan products, including jewelry and pottery. • For St. John's, we stopped at this museum. It is not very big, but the essential is there. We learn a lot about the history of the island, artifacts, belief, geography, etc. It was very interesting, so if you have an hour to spend on the history of Antigua, allow yourself a little visit.

  • The Museum of Antigua and Barbuda is located in the Heart of St. John's city, Antigua, within walking distance of the St. John's Cruise Port, East & West Bu Stations and all other locations within the City and environs. The Museum itself is hosted in what use to be the Court House (historical Building) and the building itself makes no pretense of being modern and some may argue in need of a slight face-lift. The history of Antigua from Prehistoric to recent is document in the form of literature, photos and actual artifacts. Locomotive trains from the colonial era when sugar was king, adorns the exterior along with other items from the Islands Rich Historic Past. The scale and diversity of the artifacts tend to reflect the small geographic area of the island and could be refreshed more frequently (whatever that means). 3.5 stars is a more accurate rating in my mind, perhaps that comes from experiencing other museums locally, regionally and internationally. Having said all that, The Museum of Antigua and Barbuda is a great place to visit for an historical overview of Antigua and Barbuda.
  • The Museum of Antigua & Barbuda was opened in 1985 and is operated by the Historical & Archaeological Society, a private non-profit organisation. The exhibits, which interpret the story of Antigua from its geological birth to political independence, are placed in the old St. John's Court House of 1750, a very historic building. Today, it is indeed a fine setting for an interpretive museum and is an excellent example of adaptive use for the oldest building of the capital city
  • There are signs around apologising about the state of the displays that are being updated. It must be a long update as when we spoke to people how had been before the same signs have been there for many years now. Interesting displays though and learnt a lot.
  • Just a short walk from downtown, this museum takes about 45 minutes to review. It has a lot of good history from how the Island was formed, first settlers all the way up through today. I wish it had more information about 1900's until now and details about the different parishes of the island. Also, needs more information about Barbuda.
  • This little museum if Antigua was a must see if you find yourself on the island! I found it interesting that Christopher Columbus discovered Antigua too!
