Devil's Bridge, Saint Philip Parish

4.2
#2 of 14 in Nature in Antigua and Barbuda
See an unusual geological feature in a wild and remote area at Devil's Bridge. Carved by the sea, the natural arch shows the geological composition of the area, as water wore away the soft ledge of limestone and left only the hard layers. Several natural blowholes lie in the rock around the bridge, with the shoots of spraying water announcing the power of the Atlantic. With no land or offshore reefs between here and Europe, and strong trade winds, the sea is always violent--exercise caution. • We were at 15 minutes walk from our hotel so we were a ride. The site is really beautiful and the decor makes us feel elsewhere. The wind blows, the waves come crashing on deck with extreme force and the atmosphere is of a surreal calm. The atmosphere was heavy and we felt that he had passed the tragic events. When we took knowledge of the sad history of the bridge, all took its meaning. Do not go directly on the bridge, it is still dangerous. To visit!

  • An eroded limestone cliff created by the ocean waves. It forms a bridge, since the water has carved out the stone. Worth a short stop.  more »
  • Very cool site. Powerful and awesome. Sad history to it. Don’t want to get too close. Great photo opportunity  more »

  • Very remote area with almost vivid mental visions of slave ships entering the harbour for sugar cane production. Being transformed into tourist area within the harbour. I hope the new buildings won't affect the views! The remaining bridge is amazing and worth seeing, only rocky hills and sea with a couple of tourist souvenir tables there..... So far....
  • Beautiful escape. Road gets a bit rough nearby the location. If you geocache... You can enjoy that also while you're there.
  • We were town here on our morning walk from Pineapple Beach. It's Mother Nature at her best. Over the years the rocks have been eroded by the say to form a very narrow bridge which stands above some very choppy water, big waves and jagged rocks. You can walk across the bridge but it's very narrow and hugely dangerous. There are so a couple of small blow holes close by where if the waves are big enough you can see water shooting out of into the sky. If you're in area I definitely recommend you go and have a look And spend 30 minutes having a look around.
  • It's a nice open area to fly kites and picnic with the family. The natural bridge formed by wave erosion is phenomenal and heart pounding to especially when the seas are rough and the waves crashes between the bridge and the main land.
  • Wasn't busy at all! Great experience... I was too chicken to walk the bridge though!
