Create an itinerary including Captain's Bay
Discover Captain's Bay, a secluded gem of a beach with perfect white sand. On this 0.4 km (0.25 mi) stretch, you can watch the dramatic waves from the Atlantic crash on the island's rocky northern shoreline. Beware of the extremely strong undertow here: swim with caution and never when alone on the beach. The site can be hard to reach using a normal car, so a 4X4 is recommended. You won't find any amenities apart from one super-luxury villa on the cliff, so bring snacks and drinks for the day, as well as some protection against the sometimes strong winds on this rugged part of the island. • Don't go here. You will hate it. You need to hike there and then you are all alone once you get there. The sand is too nice and the water is super clear with a ton of fish; it will drive you...

  • Good drive over volcanic terrain to get there, but once I did I had the whole beach to myself and the beautiful turquoise water. Big waves, so very much not one for swimming, and nowhere to get any...
