Mausoleum of Agostinho Neto, Luanda

2.3
Marvel at the size of Mausoleum of Agostinho Neto, a landmark tower overlooking the sea and the final resting place of independent Angola's first president. The imposing Soviet-style concrete structure stands 120 m (393 ft) tall amidst a 500 m (1,640 ft) long square. Referencing Neto's poem "The Path of the Stars," the monument bears the name of his poetry book "Sacred Hope." Climb the tower for panoramic views of Luanda. The building also houses an exhibit of paintings featuring Dr. Neto, a set of sculptures representing Angolan trades, as well as a collection of photographs of the charismatic leader. • EN: (English follows below) a monument to the Soviet but more exactly to the Chinese. The Chinese built and continue to live and work on the site adjoining barracks. They are still working on some finishes to finish. This monument is huge, massive, in honor of the first president of the country. The high arrow concrete overlooking this mausoleum is visible from almost anywhere in the city. Inquire about the days and times of visits because the monument is not always open. The ticket price of entry gives right to visit all of the mausoleum, including the coffin of the late president in a round room where silence is the rule. The visit can be done with a guide included in the price of useful to better appreciate this visit. # in: A kind of soviet monument but more exactly chinese style. • The Mausoleum of Agostinho Neto has undergone a remarkable transformation. Are more receptive, elegant and somehow appealing for those who want to learn a little more about the story of the first President of Angola. A guided tour can make him realize the poetic side of the founder of the nation. Great to know a little more about Agostinho Neto, Angola and your emergence as independent country. Nowadays hosts various cultural activities, from dance, literature, poetry, music and some exhibitions of painting and/or photography. A good place for those who appreciate art and culture.

Where to stay in Luanda

Luanda holds the title as one of the most expensive cities in the world, so even if you search for budget-friendly accommodations, bear in mind that it will cost a fair amount. Most recommend the neighborhood of Maculusso for three-, four-, and five-star hotels, but you can also see what Murtala Mohammed Avenue near Luanda Bay has to offer. All lodgings in the center make excellent starting points for exploring the rest of Luanda--just remember to confine your sightseeing to the city's safer colonial part.
