  • When in 1972, a fire destroyed the Church of Santa Maria de Meritxell, of Romanesque origin and with a carving of the Virgin in the same style, Andorrans immediately raised its reconstruction (Meritxell is the patron saint of Andorra). But in fact what was done was a sanctuary of new plant which, after various vicissitudes, was commissioned to the study by Ricard Bofill. The project of this one, which was monumental, nor was entirely. So today we have a complex comprising two main elements: the old Romanesque church was rebuilt in 1994 (carving of the Virgin included) and the sanctuary of Bofill, inaugurated in 1976, mixture of different styles but the basic integrated into the landscape purposes. The result was and is still very discussed among the Andorrans who consider the Romanesque as a style and those who appreciate the eclectic modernity of Bofill. Only to see this contrast already worth a visit it.

  • Sanctuary with a very successful design and a perfect location surrounded by nature. You can be walking 30 min, from the office of tourism of Camillo, along the way there is a picnic area. The views are spectacular.

  • Honestly, in a place with so much history as Andorra, find a modern super church, with glass and cement, minimalist and cold, a little disappointed. I guess that from the architectural point of view you will have enough value, but I imagined that reach the sanctuary of the Virgin Patron Saint of the country would be something very ancient and historic, but not. There is a small church that is always closed, I imagine that it is the original shrine, but no you can see it, unfortunately. Around there are a couple of restaurants, as a result of the number of tourists to visit the shrine.
