#3 of 12 in Historic Sites in Algiers
Tour the period rooms, World Heritage-listed facades, and interior courtyards at Le Bastion 23 - Palais des Rais, a complex of three Ottoman-era palaces and the last vestige of Algiers' traditional kasbah. Admire the palace's ornate tiled arches, vaulted ceilings with suspended metal lamps, painted railings, and latticed windows, plus views of the city. With its construction started in 1576, the complex bears many well-preserved Ottoman pavilions surrounded by 17th- and 19th-century domed mosques. Once the seat of the French governor, the palace also has many Moorish-style buildings that housed the 19th-century French nobility. • This is a complex made up of several old houses, with interesting displays, views over the harbour, and a good museum shop. Strongly recommended.  more »
  • Formerly in the hands of the ottomans, this sumptuous palace has several houses in front, which was also the houses of fishermen. Today ' administration, the mosque and the library. The Museum has a beautiful patio and ruins of the Roman baths. Several lithographs recount hours of glorious past. View of the splendid terrace overlooking the sea and the beach.

  • From outside, it would not suspect the beauty of the interior of the palaces, especially considering the State of the rest of the city! It's worth the time.

  • one of our favorite museum in Algiers. the building with different parts is well maintained and has organized exposition. the views are stunning and the atmosphere is great. this place has bathroom for visitors but unfortunately no cafe. anyway, it is worth to reach and spend couple of hours there. accessible by metro.
  • One of the most beautiful and original places in Algiers. The rooms and the hallways and every side of this place has a story that is spoken righ through its walls! As a tourist you have to check it out and even as a local i personally go once or twice a year and each time it feels the same and i discover new things about the place.
  • A hidden gem and a must see for tourists. Beautiful rooms and great guides.
  • I liked it so much 😍
  • It was far more beautiful than I could have imagined. Well restored and very interesting. It's a window through history
