Skanderbeg Square, Tirana
(3.3/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web)
Visit the statue of a national hero at Skanderbeg Square, in the center of the city. During the Albanian monarchy the square was surrounded by municipal buildings, hostels, and a bazaar. However, many of these were destroyed during communist rule and replaced with modern office buildings. In the center of the square is a statue of George Kastrioti Skanderbeg, the national hero credited with unifying the Albanian people. The statue is surrounded by an oblong section of grass and rows of trees in semi-circles at either end of the park. Cars can drive around the square, and you'll have to cross a busy street to enter the National History Museum next to the square. • With security has especially culturally and the inherently much to offer Albania, but architecturally we are accustomed in Europe basically different. Precisely for this reason, the Skanderbeg square, which is being renovated currently, by the way, is nice to look at, because he is also one of the liveliest places in Albania, but also no place, the man must linger longer.

  • Despite traffic chaos a place not to be missed. The contrast between the old mosque, government buildings in Italian style of the Fascist period and those of the Socialist period along with the Kaleidoscope of people creates a very special atmosphere.
