Categories: History Museums, Museums
Inspirock Rating:
4/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web
Albania's largest museum, National History Museum has seven pavilions of exhibits. You'll spot the attraction by the large mosaic above the front entrance called "The Albanians." Each pavilion showcases a different period in Albania's history from antiquity to communism. In the antiquity pavilion you'll see objects from prehistory to the Middle Ages, including tools from daily life, coins, and base reliefs. As you move forward in time, the exhibits get more political, celebrating Albanian independence and decrying abuses from outside nations. Beyond the socio-political history, there is also an iconography exhibit with notable works by local artists and a large exhibit sharing Albania's story from World War II. • This museum houses an informative, in depth history of Albania with wonderful artifacts, details and explanations. The large antiquities display is all signed in English, as are parts of the other sec...  read more »
  • A wider floor takes time. From BC and until recently, many are spectacular. Are the pictures a little grotesque in modern history is people who don't like attention. Usually exhibit was on in English.

  • I was very disappointed. Only part of the exhibition is described in english. I was very much intrested in the Sowjet history of Albania but there was only a small area only described in Albanian. The higher the floor the higher the temperature! If you go in summer bring at least some water and plan to have a shower after. Despite all that there are some nice pieces to see and the ancient times are described in English quite well... For the WWII part I had the feeling it was not so much objective but more heroing Albanians.
  • This was a fantastic Museum, you get a sense of history in the entire region through the eyes of this one little area, it also helps you appreciate just how complicated and diverse this country is. The only bad thing is that around the time of the Ottoman invasion (2nd floor) most English translations stop, they pick up a little around the Nazi invasion, and are very slim in the Hall of Communist Terror. it was very inspiring to see live video feed of the Communist regime being toppled. Museum in huge, took us 3 hours, so pace yourself, and they close at 5.
  • Basic museum with dated but interesting displays. Section for Mother Theresa very interesting
  • Great place to learn Albanian history.
  • sadly so Niceeee ♥
