Lekuresi Castle, Saranda

4.1
#4 of 9 in Things to do in Saranda
Visit for views over Saranda town and the Ksamil Islands from its perch on a mountain. All that remains of the castle are its ancient walls, but a small restaurant located inside has converted a part of the ruins into a restaurant terrace. From this cafe take in views of the sea and the town below as you sample the traditional cuisine. You may have to approach the bar to order during the busy peak season. Admission to the castle is free and you can roam around the stone walls, but wear appropriate hiking shoes to protect your feet from the brush and rocks. We'd come back to eat and instead it was the last day ... then I can say only that the view is well worth the visit. The Castle remained the walls and part restored and used as a restaurant. But the view of the Gulf and Corfu are priceless

The castle is situated above the town of Saranda. Most car you might want to come up here but of course hearty walk. The Castle along an asphalt road leading to the castle is sufficient and free parking is provided. The castle restaurant, café. In the evening, musical, and even cultural events or wedding venue. Summer evenings when Fireworks you hear in a hotel room, you might want to be considered here because there is a good chance that was launched from the rockets. The coffee shop consumed here is more expensive than other parts of the city consumed drinks but by far not as bad as the situation tapasztalnád in Budapest. The cry is fantastic, you can create beautiful images here, you may want to visit here. If you continue reading the post then you should know that this castle Suleiman began to build around 1537, when the Venetian island of Corfu, under the rule of the Ottoman Empire, people. From here you can almost see the former Fort goes, but at least the road for sure. So too did an excellent strategic point of view, the ide built fortress. The Fort in the 18TH CENTURY. has been completed by the end of the 19th century, Ali Pasha warlord. Nearly 200 soldiers at this time this station was the location of the place, which during the Communist military widely. Today, the Castle lost its original form since 1995, was converted into a restaurant.

Gjirokastra was built on a hill about 300 metres above the valley below and lush, between Mali i Gjerë mountains and the Drinos River. Gjirokastra, considered the center of the Greek minority in Albania, is home to other minority ethnic-linguistic, like Vlacchi and Rome. . Gjirokastra is one of the oldest cities in Albania; its name in Greek means Silver Fortress and the city shows clearly the encounter of cultures Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Turkish and Albanian.

This place will be always special to me and will be close to my heart. When I married my albanian husband, who is from Saranda the first time he took me up here I fell in love again and our wedding ceremony was here too. This place has it all, the endless blue ocean, the view of the city from the top and the mountains at your back and you are experiencing it all. For extra romantic feeling : visit the place during sunset. Must see when you visit Saranda.

Was disappointed when saw a restaurant on the top. And it's not a castle but only ruins of it which need to be reconstructed

Where to stay in Saranda

Albania’s best-known seaside city, Saranda caters to tourists with accommodations clustered along the waterfront, which is exactly where you’ll want to be too. Resort hotels line the shore, offering views of the sea and Greece across the water. Albania remains a pretty cheap tourist destination, but the cost of a seaside room falls in the more expensive range. Head farther back from the beach to find lower-budget hostels, still within walking distance to the water.
