Kruja Castle, Kruje

(4.4/5 based on 320+ reviews on the web)
See why Kruja Castle, which survived three sieges from Ottoman invaders, earned a place on the Albanian 1,000 lekë banknote. Inside the fortress' ancient walls is the National Skanderbeg Museum, where you will find artifacts from the battles fought just outside its walls. Although there is a small fee for the museum, there is no entrance fee to enter the castle's walls and it does not take long to tour. A traditional bazaar near the attraction offers you a chance to treasure hunt among merchant's stalls and blankets. Consider touring the town below and snapping some pictures of the attraction on the hill from the beneath its stone tower. Arrange to visit Kruja Castle and other attractions in Kruje using our Kruje family vacation planner.

  • Medieval castle mainly ruins but has very interesting 18th century pasha's house. Can take a tour with an English speaking guide who was excellent and funny. Learned much about how grain was milled, olive oil made, cloth and felt produced, shoes made, local alcoholic drink, etc as well as touring the pasha's family quarters with objects from the time, stenciled walls, Turkish bath inside the house etc. Definitely visit this museum/house. It's not the Skanderbej museum which is a new construction but the 1700s house further on.
