Komani Lake, Koman
Categories: Bodies of Water, Nature & Parks
Created when the Drini Valley was dammed, Komani Lake rests in deep gorges between the towns of Komani and Fierza; two ferries travel between the towns on the lake. The boats get packed with visitors, locals, and even animals as residents move between the two towns on their daily commute. Try to grab a seat on a ferry close to the water to appreciate the tall cliffs on either side. The cliffs' jagged faces are dotted with trees and brush growth, but the rest of the shore is sparsely populated. Book a private boat tour through one of the ferry companies for a personalized look at the lake and its environs. Some private tours even include a stop at the captain's family home for a meal and a trip to the best swimming area. Buy your ferry ticket at your hotel and the ferry company will pick you up from the hotel's door. A second lake connects to Komani and goes near the Kosovo border; before a highway was built, the lake was the only way to get to there.
