Zekate House, Gjirokaster

Categories: Historic Sites, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.5/5 based on 80+ reviews on the web
An intact Ottoman tower house, Zekate House is an example of a combination of Turkish and Albanian design sensibilities. You must request access to the house at the tourist office in the center of town, and be sure to ask for information on the attraction in English. A neighbor next door to the attraction keeps the key and lets you into the space. On the ground floor is a kitchen and a cistern. Take the central staircase to the family rooms and the third-floor reception room. The latter is covered in frescoes from ceiling to floor and lined with sofas in traditional Balkan style. Make Zekate House a centerpiece of your Gjirokaster vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Gjirokaster vacation generator.

  • The visit was very interesting, the price includes a tour guide in english which explains us what the rooms were for. It's worth getting there to better understand Albanian Life!
  • If you arrive in Gjirokaster soggiornatevi for a few days and visit all the Ottoman houses (Zakate and Skenduli), the towers bed and breakfast like Konaku, the Castle, the ethnographic museum, stroll through the bazaar and enter the tunnel bunkers of the cold war. Every place is magical and unique and deserves to be visited.
