Place of Shining Light
For centuries a major Buddhist pilgrimage site, Bamyan now represents one of the most stable places in war-torn Afghanistan. Although much of the area's cultural treasures lie in rubble due to years of uninterrupted destruction, a trip to Bamyan allows fearless explorers to discover one of the most picturesque valleys in this part of the world. World Heritage-listed since 2003, Bamyan Valley has always served as a meeting place between East and West. At the intersection of ancient trade routes, the area boasts many archaeological sites that reveal a blend of Persian, Turkish, Chinese, Greek, and Indian influences. Take stress off the schedule by using our Afghanistan trip itinerary app.

Where to stay in Bamyan

Although Bamyan itself offers relatively few sleeping choices, the surrounding area provides more than enough options for the few foreign travelers who make it this far into Afghanistan. A few hotels in town offer basic rooms and hot meals, as well unlimited electricity and access to the Internet. Private guesthouses outside the city core serve as less expensive options, but they also provide only a few hours of electricity and no additional amenities.
